As part of my research and planning for my short film, "Cheese Flick", I looked at some feature films and television series such as "Confession of a Shopaholic", "Mean Girls", "Ugly Betty" which influenced my choice of genre, audience, style and narrative. My main inspiration was "Confessions of a Shopaholic" I liked the idea of her having an encounter with a stranger and finding out later that he's her potential boss. I like the editing techniques used in "Ugly Betty" and in some scenes in "Mean Girls", I also liked the use of mobile phones in the film and want to somehow incorporate that into my 5-minute film.
My film is a short romantic comedy. The target audience for my film are in the age group of 13-18 because I feel that they would appreciate it most. The style of my film is intimate as it will only consist of 2 characters, it is also artistic as I intend to do some "fancy" editing.
My idea for the "romcom" 5-minute film is, a "dude" and a "chick" accidentally bump into each other and she angrily spills his drink on him and storms off. Later on in the afternoon, she arrives for her job interview and realises that the man she spilled a drink on earlier is her potential boss and would be the one interviewing her. As she sits down she immediately begins to apologise and explain her behaviour, the boss then cuts in and tells her that he's gone through her file and believes her credentials are worthy and she's hired. Excited and still very embarrassed she insists on buying him a drink to replace the one she spilled earlier during the day and as they walk to the coffee shop on their lunch break it is clear that they are attracted to each other.
Due to the experience I've gained from my preliminary documentary exercise I am more familiar with the different editing techniques.
